Joey Logano is at the top of his game right now. As NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup championship heads towards the great equalizer known as Talladega, everyone in the garage knows that the guy currently in the number one spot didn’t get there by luck. The affable 25 year old has shown that in the post-season he’s every bit a match for current Cup champ Kevin Harvick, one of the sport’s grizzled tough guys. He even showed shades of Dale Earnhardt Sr. the way he simply moved Matt Kenseth out of the way in Kansas last week. He appears unstoppable.
I had the chance to go deep with the #22 team during the Sprint Cup race at Pocono in August and saw first hand what it takes to put together a run towards a win. Logano dominated that weekend also, but it all fell apart at the end over fuel mileage. It was a fascinating look at the inside of a race weekend. The #22 Team Penske crew has to work their butts off to get him to the front every week.
