BEHOLD! This might just be one of the finest LeMons paint jobs of all time. I’m not sure I want to know exactly what our team captain Jay had to do in exchange, but somehow he has convinced artist Federico Massa to paint bomb the Brooklyn Bomb Squad’s Audi 100 in time for the Real Hoopties Of New Jersey Lemons 24 race this weekend. Because Federico is actually a real life, famous artist – his amazing, psychedelic paintings are seen everywhere from galleries to street murals to Marc Jacobs bags -our car’s paintjob is now worth far more than the car itself. Luckily, Federico thought the idea was cool and did it for free.

So now that the car looks amazing, there is still a metric shit ton of things to do to make this race car actually race. We only have a few days left. It’s crunch time. The biggest job is fitting the new shifter and connecting the shift linkage.
Jay is out of town today so Eugene had only me to help out with important things like over tightening bolts, losing things, and damn near impaling my entire foot on a stray threaded rod in the parking lot.
Not entirely sure what Eugene is Sawzalling here, but I am reasonably sure that he does.
Success! The old shifter tower was literally welded onto the bolts on the tunnel; we had to cut it off and redrill some bolt holes. Now we have gears. Very happy.
The driving is the only thing in this wreck that even has a hope of staying clean.
But with a paintjob like this, I sure hope we stay out of trouble this weekend. I’m not sure Federico will every forgive us if we bin it on the first race.
