PUPPYKNUCKLES is the blog of automotive photographer DW Burnett. That’s me! Most people call me Dave.
This site started off in 2013 or ’14 as a place for me to publish some of my initial, crude attempts at photography. I liked having a place to put the things I made. Self-publishing was kind of therapeutic. I had been working as a live and session drummer for years, and that is a very collaborative type of work. I love music, but I must have needed some other kind of outlet as well because when I started wandering around with a camera I was determined that I could make something start-to-finish, all by myself, and maybe I would like it. Maybe it would be good. Or terrible? I didn’t know. The point is, the photos would be exactly as good as I could make them, as fast as I could make them. It was fun. I went looking for anything and everything to shoot, which led me across the country and back. I got very lucky and before I knew it I had a career as a car photographer. It’s been a very busy few years yet most of what I’ve been up to the last few years has not shown up on this blog. Most of it went on Instagram.
I miss this place, so I am going to start posting a lot of that old and new work here, maybe with a few extra details about the shoots and trips than I might share on social media. I feel like the deeper I get into having this job, it’s important to not lose touch with that feeling I had when I started doing this, when everything about cars and cameras was fun and unserious and I could call just call the website PUPPYKNUCKLES.
